Earlier this year I had been given an opportunity to participate in an exciting event called #Escapers15 which started in Singapore and ending in Queensland, Australia. I have been to Singapore many times and spent a couple of years studying in New South Wales, Australia. However, #Escapers15 has given me experiences in both countries, especially Queensland, Australia. I can’t believe how much I love it there, people, weather, and food! I feel that I should have taken time to visit Queensland while I was studying in New South Wales. So, big thank you to Accor Hotel, Scoot Airlines, and Queensland Tourism for such an awesome trip!

The race set out to be a bit like the TV show, The Amazing Race, albeit a bit more relaxing, more fun and without all the scary challenges.  However all the competitors looked to be quite competitive. There were 17 competitors from a total of 9 different countries — Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, China, India, and Australia. Two competitors from each country form one team, except for lonely Japan, with only one person.

#Escapers15 began the first leg in Singapore in the early morning at the hotel, ibis Bencoolen, where we spent the night. I rested really well and was pump up and raring to go.

We choose to exit through the back side of the hotel, heading for Bugis Station.

My room during my stay in Singapore. It might not be large but it is really clean and has really comfy bed. ibis Bencoolen focus on ‘green’ concept, so there is message for helping recycling everywhere as well.

If you were to choose a room with ‘extra benefits’ option you will get one of this ‘handy smartphone’ with unlimited mobile 3G access and unlimited international calls to 27 countries which is quite ‘handy’ 🙂

ibis Bencoolen had one of the best breakfast I have ever had, really. Love the milk tea! I am addicted to milk tea and milk tea here is one of the best, really.

We are off! Thailand, Fighting! Our first destination is Mount Faber. We choose to travel by the metro, leaving from the nearest station, Bugis, which is only about 7-minutes walk away.

One transfer later, we arrived at the Harbour Front Station, base of Mount Faber. There is two option to get to the top of the Faber Peak, take the cable car, or hike. With such an adventurous we are, we chose to hike up all the way. Save some money as well.

The first challenge we chose to do was to get a photo with strangers at the mural. I was glad to have met these fun family, grandma and her two super bright grandsons. They look exciting but a bit scary of me, maybe.

One we finished the first challenge and while heading down the mountain, we met the other teams. #Selfie is required, at least to hold them up, LOL.

Our timing was right on. After a tiring hike up and down the mountain, It was time to fill up. Fortunately the second challenge we chose to do was of course, eating! We arrive at Telok Ayer Market right on time for lunch. One of the most popular dish in Singapore is Chicken Rice. There a quite a few chicken rice stall here, so we picked one because the cook looks quite professional.

Next challenge was at the Sofitel So Singapore which is just right behind the market. We went right to the xperience bar where we met Azria, the bartender, for the signature cocktail made with connac, gin, pandan.

A bit tipsy with the cocktail earlier, we went up to the rooftop pool to rest for a bit. Sofitel So Singapore had quite a view of the city, we forgot how long we were there for.

Right on to the next challenge. We walked all the way from Sofitel So Singapore to Merlion, which was not that far. Merlion is the much go landmark of Singapore and definitely a must for fun photo. For this challenge we had to think of some creative photo with the Merlion. Water-pistol shooting Merlion action movie it is!

Last challenge of the leg. We took a boat ride to the Novotel Clarke Quay for a shot next to the pool. Had to pull some ‘retro’ post, planking.
